Regarding the M-TEL tournament not happening this year, the interviewer asks:Interviewer: Isn't this going to eventually have a repercussion on the reputation of the tournament for the coming year?
Danailov:It will have a repercussion, but in history there have been such cases with other tournaments – both with Corus and Linares. What is Danailov talking about with respect to Corus/Wijk ann Zee? Since the start of that tournament (in Beverwijk 1938) that series of tournaments has only missed one year, 1945, and that for the rather momentous occassion of the final months of WWII. I hardly think that's comparable to M-TEL deciding to only support Topalov personally (for the match) instead of a tournament.

Ok, the Wijk aan Zee parallel is pretty lousy - obviously the two situations are extremely different. But let's be charitable: the parallel with Linares in 1987 (the Karpov-Sokolov Candidates "Super-Final") and 1996 (the Women's World Championship) looks pretty good.
